What I Learned from Keeping a Gratitude Diary During Most of the Year

Ever since 2017, when appreciation and its benefits entered my personal and professional life, I have reflected on being grateful for the small, medium and big things in life. This year, I did something different. I kept a gratitude diary where I shared three things I was grateful for almost every day. The result? I think I learned a lot about myself.

To begin with, I learned how much I truly valued my relationships with my family. I saw how grateful I felt in their presence and the effort that went into strengthening these relationships. When you see a reflection in writing days after you’ve written it down, you see a part of yourself almost like from an outsider’s perspective.

When looking back over my writing, I see my joy in spending time with my parents and siblings. I see how meaningful my health and wellbeing are to me. I see the comforts (e.g. food, bed, etc.) and blessings (e.g. motivation, kindness) that I try not to take for granted.

What are you most grateful for? Have you considered putting your reflections in writing?

I also feel that a grateful reflection has showed me my impact on others. Since launching Gratitude Circle in 2017, I have tried to spread the value of appreciation and my gratitude diary has taught me that I have made progress via my efforts.

Today, as I reflect on gratefulness and my attitude during the year, I am proud of keeping a gratitude diary. It shows me in writing what truly matters, and I hope to continue spreading appreciation for a long time coming.

If you want to learn more about yourself, and give this gift to yourself, keeping a gratitude diary can help. I’ll be the first to vouch for this.
